Outward 2 Beta Survival Tips: Safe Storage, Weather Hazards, and Early Recipes
The Outward 2 beta playtest is currently live, and players are quickly realizing that Aurai is just as unforgiving as ever. Between extreme weather conditions, brutal debuffs, and a lack of early-game storage, surviving the first few days requires careful planning.
Based on community testing and player reports, we have compiled the most useful Outward 2 beta tips to keep your character alive, fed, and properly geared.
Finding Safe Storage in the Outward 2 Beta
One of the most common questions during this playtest is where to store items, as players are quickly filling up their early 40-capacity backpacks. Without a player home immediately available, leaving your hard-earned loot on the ground or in random containers is risky.
According to community-reported testing by Reddit user angelstar107, there is a safe stash early on. The chest located inside the Clinic appears to be safe for storing items. The player left items inside the Clinic chest and camped in the wild for 10 in-game days without the container resetting. While this is unconfirmed as a permanent feature by the developers, it is currently the most reliable way to offload your inventory.
Surviving the Weather: The Rain Debuff Chain
If you are playing the beta, you will notice it rains constantly. This isn't just an aesthetic weather effect; it triggers a harsh chain of survival debuffs that can easily ruin a playthrough.
Players report that the rain frequently applies the Wet debuff (-25% Cold Weather protection, -10% Frost Resistance). Because the current ambient temperature often drops during the day, this quickly escalates into Hypothermia (-10% Movement Speed, -4 Agility). If left untreated, Hypothermia rapidly leads to a Cold and eventually an Acute Cold, which guts your Stamina Regeneration by 20% and lowers your Constitution.
Campfire Warning: Be careful when trying to warm up. Community feedback indicates that the temperature scaling near campfires is currently bugged. Standing directly next to a cooking pot can instantly trigger a Heat Stroke, while standing slightly further away clears Hypothermia at a painfully slow rate. Manage your distance carefully when drying off.
Essential Early Crafting Recipes
Crafting remains entirely experimental unless you purchase recipe scrolls. However, players have pooled their resources to figure out several fundamental Outward 2 recipes. Keep in mind these are subject to change before the full release:
Food & Survival
- Jerky: Any Meat + 2 Salt
- Cinnamon Bread: Cinnamon Toast + Marbled Cinnamon
- Gaberry Tartine: Gaberry Jam + Cinnamon Toast
Combat & Gear
- Makeshift Arrow: Iron Scrap + Wood
- (Community note: Mining pickaxes are currently very scarce in the starting areas. Check all merchants thoroughly, as availability seems inconsistent).
Combat Warnings and Magic
Exploration is highly encouraged, but be mindful of what you attack. If you encounter a creature currently known by the community as the Thunder Dragon Mouse, leave it alone. This mob is entirely passive until provoked. Once attacked, it hits incredibly hard, easily breaks your guard with tail swipes, and summons lightning.
For magic users, early spellcasting is sparse, but players have confirmed locating a Summoner Trainer, and the basic Spark spell can be learned from the Leyline.
Finally, players have reported an unconfirmed bug regarding the Mender's Shield. Currently sold for 0 Silver by the blacksmith, players claim that if you place this shield into a chest and leave the area for a while, it miraculously transforms into a high-tier Palladium Shield. If you need a defensive upgrade, this playtest quirk might be worth testing yourself.
Note: All mechanics, recipes, and bugs mentioned are based on the current Outward 2 beta playtest and are subject to change.
